Where you buy ammonia?

Postby Timmymna » Wed Jan 21, 2009 3:38 am

Can anyone suggest where I can buy this?
In the Newcastle area I have tried B&Q, Homebase, Boots, Wilkinsons, couple of supermarkets and a small hardware shop in the market.
Also why the strange looks when asking for ammonia, what dodgy uses does it have?

Thanks :)

You could boil some of your urine to sterilise it and use that! If you are really desperate!

where to find ammonia

Postby becceswaffs » Wed Jan 21, 2009 9:58 am

Hi, i live in London and found it hard to find pure ammonia. I did the same as you looking in B&Q, homebase boots etc. Nothing!!
Then I remebered a smallish hardware store down the road from me, nothing fancy just a small business that sells everyday household bits.
Went in and asked and there it was on the shelf.
You do get funny looks sometimes as ammonia is used in making bombs (terrorists) but your only buying a very small amount.

The bottle i got is made by power MAX, i phoned them up to make sure that it was pure ammonia and explained why i was asking.(to cycle my fish tank)

website: http://www.challs.com

click on the down arrow under power max and select ammonia.
the other thing you could do is phone them and ask them of a company in your area that they supply.

Hope this helps
Becce x

Thanks for the help, I went into another Boots which sold it but unfortunately they were out of stock so I'm going to try the big boots again but have a look in the right section this time :P
It's in the cleaning section for anyone else looking for it, hopefully will finally be able to get my tank up and running soon :)
