Postby begbie » Tue Aug 21, 2007 11:17 pm

Hi everybody,
I just bought a second hand Fluval 404 External Filter but I have a problem, it didnt come with any instructions so I dont know what filters to use inside it? Also when I get everything I need to make it work what do I do to start it? Can anyone help or dose anyone have any ideas? Any help would be great.
Thanks Neil.

Did you get the DVD with your filter? The DVD explains very clearly how to set up.

As for media, did you get any with your 2nd hand filter? The first stage is the foam screen. The next stages use the baskets, the water starting from the bottom basket and working its way up. So you'd put your media in that order. Fluval filters normally come with carbon bags and Biomax (bacterial filtration) media. The carbon bags will go in the bottom baskets and the Biomax will go in the next baskets. Remaining baskets can be filled with extra media of your choice, eg nitate-removal resin.

Hope this helps so far.

I found mine never self primed, so I filled the canister up then used a jug to fill the pipes! Good as new and problem free.

I have to say I thought mine was a very good filter, but as said above, they are a b*//^r to prime. once you have it primed, you may find it noisy, give it a light shake to get any air out of it.
