Bleaching monti

Postby paulbee13 » Tue Apr 25, 2017 6:31 am

Hi all
have a problem with monti bleaching they seem to do. Ok for 6 to 8 weeks then go down hill.
I have a 100ltr tank run a Tunze 9001 skimmer TMC reef filter nano 50 with Rowaphos and use redsea salt
Lighting is a AI prime water movement is provided by a Tunze nano stream and Kent Bio reef pump which turns over 2000ltr per hour.
I do a 10% water change every week using RO/DI water from my LFS and test every week last Sunday results as follows

S.G. 1.025
Ph. 8.0
All. 11dkh
No3. 0.373ppm
Po4. 0.04ppm
Mag. 1520ppm
Cal. 435ppm

I have bought a few monti digs now have tried them under the lights to the side of the lights always with the same results so any suggestions much appreciated

Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, what setting do you have the prime on as these are very powerful little lights.

I would give one last try with one in medium flow and slight shade.

Do you have any fish that would eat the monti polyps? How long has the tank been running? How many other corals are in the tank? Is it red sea salt or red sea coral plus salt?

I had this issue of bleaching with my sps frags,I was ready to go fish only as was getting fed up up as all my parameters where fine, after a long chat with Lfs it was suggested that I bring my alk down to 7.5-8 and then test over 3 days to work out how much alk was being used. I know use a doser to keep alk stable as the unstability in alk swings was causing the sps to bleach, touch wood everything has been fine since I started and growing well
