Re: Variatus Platies Needing a Good Home!

I too had a problem with over-production of platies in my tank. I added a couple of small angel fish to control the livebearer population the natural way, and pretty soon I stopped seeing platy fry in my tank :D - population control the natural way :) . Eventually my platies have almost all died off...

FISH SHOP RECCOMMENDATIONS

I've kept fish - tropical and fancy goldfish - for many years now and currently have a 4 ft tropical tank. My married daughter in London is planning on getting a small fishtank for her birthday at the end of October and has just rung me to ask for advice on what to put in her proposed new tank. She ...

Vanishing neons.

I have a 4 ft 'community' tank, set up with sterba's corydoras (6), platies (2 x females, 1 x male), keyhole cichlids (2 males), 2 angel fish, dwarf chain loaches (2), yoyo loaches (3), adult female ancistrus catfish (1) several young ancistrus catfish (I think half-a dozen, I've not been able to co...

The first thing I did was to take the unit out of the tank and give it a good clean before testing it in a bucket of water in the kitchen sink. Still nothing happened, so it was down to my local fish shop - Arundel Aviaries & Fisheries in Portsmouth, aka 'Taylors' - for a new unit. My old pump I'd h...

Juwel pump failure

It's a few months since I last logged into this forum; my tank has been running fine, with no problems until today, and I think it might be something major so I'd appreciate advice on what the problem is likely to be and how best to go about fixing it. Basically, I've had my 4 ft. Juwel tank up and ...

I'll be cleaning the little tank and changing g the filter pads later on today so if I can catch her, I'll relocate the adult female and leave Dad to bring up his babies.

After this latest batch of eggs have hatched and the fry are free-swimming, I'm thinking that I should separate the adult bristlies simply to stop them breeding and being over-run with yet more babies in the future. In my big 4 ft tank I have three young ancistrus, about the same size as the one tha...

Ancistrus problem.

I have a 2 ft tropical tank which is home to a breeding pair of ancistrus catfish (plus three dwarf chain loaches, for snail control). The ancistrus spawn regularly - the latest time being within the past hour - and I'm rapidly getting over-run with youngsters from previous broods which are still sh...
