I am setting up a juwel rio 125 litre. It has its juwel internal still fitted, but looks as though it would come out easily enough. The tank will have sand and rockwork and be home to my Neolamprologus caudopunctatus. I have a breeding pair in a 70 litre with their fry, and 3 solitary males in another 70 litre. Each has its own internal, one being an aquaball covered with mesh for fry, the other being an Eheim pickup.

On the juwel rio, I have 4 filtration options:

1. Run it with the Juwel internal, packed with mature media from other tanks.
2. Run it with the aquaball and eheim pickups
3. Run it with just one of the above
4. Use one of my spare externals an Eheim 2213 or a Fluval 203, using mature media.

Faced with so much choice, I cant decide. I was going to use the Juwel because it was there, I've used them before, and get on OK with them. I would have to find a way of jamming in the sponges from the aquaball and pickup, but thats not a problem really. It takes up fish space though.

The external would be low maintenance, more room in tank, and I had started to lean towards this option, but I am bothered about the large amount of small fry being sucked up the intake. When I tried a filter sponge over the intake on my other tank it caused problems, the sponge clogged easily making my filter run noisily and it took me a while to realize. I'm now wondering if I have damaged it.

What would you do?

Got a bristlenose a few days ago for eating a small bit of algae at bottom of tank where substrate and glass meet, unfortunalty it died after 2 days. I think it was very small only about an 1.5cm so not sure if that had anything to do with it. Anyway went to lfs looking for a bigger one and saw the flash pleco. It looks stunning however after doing some research have found that they don’t eat a lot of algae, also am I right in thinking that they prefer quite a high temperature. Would it be ok at 26c or ideally should it be higher, as I have rasboras don’t think they would handle it much hotter, have large bit of bogwood which it is knawing on quite happily, was going to feed courgette, sweet potatoe and not sure what else. Is there a specific tab food for pleco or should I just add in algae wafers. Guy in the shop said they where algae eaters and will stick to glass and clean it so I thought it would be like the Brisltenose but I guess I am wrong. He is probably about 2.5 inches at moment. Other tanks mates are 1 dwarf gourami, 9 harlequin rasboras, 9 dwarf rainbows, 2 dwarf rams, 6 Julli Corys.

Hi there, this is my 2nd post in the forum but my 1st for a long time! I'm hoping somebody can help! Ive recently put some crushed coral in my external filter hoping to raise the kh and ph of my aquarium. My ph was fluctuating between 6.4 and less than 6. My tap water after 48hrs with an airstone in is 7.2, dkh was 2 and gh was 107.4ppm. I know my ph was unstable because my tap water is soft and has no buffers hence why I added crushed coral. After 3 days in my filter the ph has gone up to 6.8, the kh hasn't changed and the gh has gone up to 125.3! My question is with such a low kh level still, will my ph levels still fluctuate or will it remain stable? thx in advance!

Ok guys i kneed your help.
I've had my tank for about 6 months now, my tank is 320 litres, I cycled my tank with 6 x-ray tetras and then 2 weeks later with 6 rummy-nose tetra.
then (and drill me later about fish choice) I added a tiger oscar with a gold nugget placo, pictus catfish, SAE, 2 blue rams and a couple of zebra snails.
All my peramiters are I think pretty much perfect - ammonia - 0. nitrate - less than 5 and nitrite - 0. My PH is 7.8. I do weekley 25% water changes with reinitialised RO water and its got quite a fue plants! problem is my last addition... the pictus catfish seem's to have brought in a whitespot infestation!!! (it looked perfect in the shop) and unfortunately I don't have room for a quarantine tank.
i panicked a bit looked on the internet and this is what I've done! I've raised the temp to 30c and added 260grams of interpet aqualibrium aquarium salt, a massive 18inch air stone and I plan to add the same amount again tomorrow and the next day, raising the total amount to aprox 2.4grams of salt per litre!
please advise me if this was the right thing to do do or should i be taking other steps!

Hi all,

Posted earlier in the introductions section saying hello and thought I would come and do the same here.

I have recently purchased a Juwel Monolux 80 with 4 gold fish. Unfortunately, this tank sprung a leak and I had to move all 4 into a Monolux 60 which was far too small for them all. Anyway, Repaired the 80 and put the 2 larger fish in that and bought the 60 for the 2 smaller ones.

I have had a gold fish in the past which I asked my Dad to look after when I moved here to the Isle of Man, and he still has that one that is now 10 years or so old but I myself hadn't had a tank in 4 years but over the last 3 weeks or so, now own 2!!

Posted some pics below of the tanks, If you have any tips for me or advice, please let me know as I am relatively inexperienced at this!

Thanks

Ian

Today I added 2 more blood parrots and my old parrot is following them like tom an jerry ahaha.

A good think what I can see here is that the orange parrot (my old parrot) is not staying under the bridge anymore.

Can someone tell me what he is really doing most of the time he follow them under the tail (near parrot ass).

My aquarium is 50 litters and till 1st of June I will receive a 260 litters.

I removed 2 Colombian (catfish) sharks from my tank and I have these 3 big parrots and 7 small Blood parrot (these 7 small BP I sent to the petshop and he confirm me that they are small BPs).
Here you can have the link of my video:
i ordered my ticket a week or so ago. ive never been but i went to Leeds festival in 2004 which was awesome, but im expecting this to be better!

i wasn't actually bothered about going, and then i saw that Metallica we're playing the full black album on the Saturday! and then i also realized it's my birthday on the Sunday, and Black Sabbath are playing (im more a fan of Metallica but hey)

so, i decided i was going! at first i was going just for the Saturday (on my own ha!) but now one of my friends from around where i live (the guy who bought my old tank) and another friend who lives in chesterfield are going to, so we are going for the 3 days :)

so, anybody?

Hi,
I am adding a bamboo shrimp (2inch) to my new 330l tank and was wondering what they need to be fed on? I was intending to add a few shrimp pellets and always have courgette or cucumber in (plecos too) but remembered reading somewhere that they need fine particles in the main flow? I would be very grateful for any advice on feeding these great little shrimps:) Thanks
